Introducing the MORTYSUB-18. Inspired by popular DIY builds designed around Dayton Audio’s original UM18 subwoofer driver, our updated kit has been specifically reworked to suit the newer and improved UMII18-22 driver.

Kits to suit Dayton Audio’s Ultimax subwoofers have easily been our most requested, and with good reason. The Ultimax range of subwoofers have been threatening the integrity of home foundations for over 10 years. You simply cannot beat the bang for buck you get from large, vented DIY subwoofers if deep extension and high SPL is your goal. The new UMII18-22 driver takes things a step further and will perform 1-2db better with slightly deeper extension in most simulations compared with the previous generation.

While bigger is typically better when it comes to vented subwoofers, we did want these to be manageable to cut, ship and assemble. We also wanted to make be able to nest these efficiently for minimal material wastage, especially when combined with our CNC. We ended up settling on a net enclosure volume of approx. 213L litres tuned to 19hz.

The result is a subwoofer that in room, will comfortably hit LFE reference (115db+) at 20hz when combined with an adequate amplifier (1000w-1500w+) and DSP.

This kit is provided in a flat pack and requires assembly.

Thanks to interlocking braces and pre-cut slots for the majority of internal panels, assembly is straightforward, even for less experienced woodworkers or speaker builders.

This is a passive subwoofer kit so you will need an external amplifier and we highly recommend one with DSP to get the most out of your kit. The most common options are:

• Behringer NX Series
• Crown XTI Series
  

Alternatively, you can use an amplifier without DSP such as the Dayton Audio SA1000 combined with an external DSP device such as a MiniDSP.

Due to the design of the port and bracing, this Subwoofer Kit does not typically suit a plate amp. We do intend on doing a version to suit our NB Audio NPA range of plates once these have been released.

Note: This kit does not suit the original UM18 driver. The dimensions of the driver are different and it will not fit.

This kit does not include damping material. If you do wish to use it, we recommend 300gsm+ polyester wadding.

Instead, once you place your order, we'll email you a shipping quote based on the delivery address you provided. Your order will only proceed once you've approved and paid this quote.

Important: You won’t be charged for your kit until you accept the shipping quote.

While we do require your card details at checkout, no funds are taken right away. We've set up our system so that payment is only captured once you've confirmed the shipping cost. If you choose not to proceed after receiving the quote, no payment will be processed, and no refund will be necessary as nothing was charged.

Shipping Dimensions/Information:

This kit is shipped on one pallet which excludes the driver. The driver will be shipped directly from the distributor. The cost to ship the driver is included in the kit price.
