Measure, don't guess.

• Dayton Audio DATS V3: measures a driver's impedance and Thiele-Small parameters, the numbers you need to design a box. The DATS-LA loudspeaker analyser is also here.
• Calibrated microphones for frequency response, each with its own calibration file: the IMM-6 (3.5 mm, phone), IMM-6C (USB-C), UMM-6 (USB, computer), EMM-6 (XLR, needs an interface with phantom power) and OmniMic 40K.

A USB mic and free software like REW is the cheapest way to see what your speaker is really doing.
